“NoSQL Databases: a Survey and Decision Guidance” by @Baqendcom https://t.co/r0OK14tyXA @Ocramius sure everything depends on the context, for medium\big enterprises this is common when the alternative is a few hours downtime @Ocramius oh sure, everything is under the assumption you are working with migrations that need near-zero downtime on big tables (M rows) @Ocramius anyway I wouldn't do it "manually", using percona online schema change is preferable in most of the cases https://t.co/fHnDBsSgJI @Ocramius On mysql and big tables, working on a copy and swap them at the end is common, removing indexes before ALTERing can speed up a lotMVVM is lipstick on a pig https://t.co/tKVGYowZi1“Final Classes: Open for Extension, Closed for Inheritance” https://t.co/fikTU1No0k

@taylorotwell in my case is mysql 5.6 ~20m rows @taylorotwell but you may want to do a more serious benchmark with defined dataset and configuration, can't help on this right now. @taylorotwell running "select count(id) as a from (select * from myT) as t" vs "select count(id) from myTable" takes 10x on my staging env @taylorotwell A subquery like that one will definitely kill performances on big tables, I would consider it as opt-in but not a default#WednesdayWisdom https://t.co/Tby9BAF5J0
