My art historian wife has a great sense of humor, but a 10th anniversary card featuring Judith beheading Holofernes might be pushing it.

@adamanthro I guess I thought it was weird at first but I've gotten used to it. Greater transparency within review & decision is big plus. @adamanthro single blind, common in science (in part because you usually have to cite so much of your own prior work)RANT CONCLUDED.Also, note to future self as journal editor: if you get a nasty, personal, inappropriately negative review, blacklist that jerk, too.So, note to future self as journal editor: if you get a "looks great" 3 sentence drive-by review, blacklist that person from future reviews. Not trying to say drive-bys are worse. Being shitty trumps being lazy, but neither is good for science. I mean, duh. But still. My guess is that as authors we treat those positive drive-by reviews as blessings, but deep down we know they are not.You hear a lot about nasty, vindictive, personal, sexist, inappropriate peer reviews, but rarely complaints about the drive-by ones.Reviewer 1: 3 sentences: looks great! R2: 14 paragraphs: many problems. R3: 28 succinct bullets: many problems. I'm 2 but wish I was 3.Sometimes the lessons are about what to do better, and sometimes about what not to do. Today, I saw both.I've learned so much by being BCC'd on manuscript decision letters to authors of journal articles I've reviewed.
